A wedding weekend
Emma & James
A small family wedding on a working farm in west Sonoma.
Welcome
We can't wait to celebrate with you.
Around forty of our closest people, gathered for a long weekend on a working farm in west Sonoma. We're going for casual and intimate, with plenty of unstructured time to just be together. The farm sits about an hour and a half north of San Francisco.
The weekend
Schedule
The shape of the four days. A few exact times are still firming up.
Where to stay
Accommodation
We've booked two places to keep everyone close. If you've already sorted a room with us, you're set.
Inn at Occidental
Booked out for the weekend, Aug 27–30. Cozy and classic, in the village of Occidental — about 10–15 minutes from the farm. Thursday welcome and Sunday brunch are here.
Green Valley Farm
The farm sleeps up to about 20 in the bedrooms on-site. Rustic and communal, right in the middle of everything.
What to expect
- Warm, sunny days and breezy evenings
- The farm is rural — dust, gravel, animals, and patchy cell service
- Occidental village has cafés and restaurants, courts, and a few trailheads nearby
Getting there
Travel
The farm is in Sebastopol, in west Sonoma County. Three airports work — pick by where you're coming from. From overseas, SFO is the easiest way in.
| Fly into | Drive to Sebastopol |
|---|---|
| San Francisco (SFO) | ~1.5 hours |
| Oakland (OAK) | ~1.5 hours |
| Santa Rosa · Sonoma County (STS) | ~30 minutes |
Worth a detour
Thursday afternoon and Sunday after brunch are the natural windows to wander.
- The coast — Bodega Bay and Jenner, ~30 minutes west. Beach walks and oysters.
- Russian River wineries — ~20 minutes north. Pinots and chardonnays under the redwoods.
- Healdsburg — ~40 minutes northeast. A walkable square and some of the county's best restaurants.
- Occidental trails — a network of mountain-bike and walking trails right above the village. Trail map.
- Grove of Old Trees — a quiet stand of old-growth redwoods near Occidental. LandPaths.
Good to know
Before you come
What's the weather like?
Late August is the warmest, driest stretch of the year. Highs around 80°F — occasionally into the high 80s — and nights cool to about 55°F. Almost no rain. Bring a light layer for after the sun goes down.
What's the dress code?
Garden party attire on Saturday — summer dresses, linen suits, soft colors, easy to dance in and warm enough for a Sonoma evening. The rest of the weekend is relaxed. Friday's Olimpicks is just for fun — wear something you can run around in and won't mind getting grassy. There's a farmhouse with showers on site, so bring a change of clothes if you'd like to freshen up after.
What should I pack?
- Something nice for the ceremony and dinner
- Comfortable shoes for the farm — gravel, grass, dust
- A jacket or shawl for cool evenings
How do I RSVP?
It's a small family wedding, so we already know who's coming, with a few maybes on the cards. Just let us know if your plans change.
Are gifts expected?
Please don't feel you need to bring anything. If you'd like to do more, we'll share a little closer to the date.
Is there a formal ceremony?
Yes — Saturday afternoon at the farm, small and family-focused. We're also throwing a celebration in Australia within the year, for family who can't make this trip.
